Dear Parents and Community of Edgewood ISD:
Hello to all of you. We want to begin by thanking you for being such active community members and parents. I was so impressed with the high number of parents that attended the PFAC meeting at Memorial High School last month. It is so wonderful to see you interact with our district and to be part of the district team. We are here for you and your children and it is so exciting to see so many of you participating within the district. It is this strong partnership that will make us the strongest school district in Bexar County.
Fall is here and we have so much to celebrate. Our students are excelling in extra-curricular activities, from football, volleyball, to dance, band and robotics. Edgewood is showcasing the “World Class” students who walk throughout the district buildings. The students give us so many reasons to be proud. Teaching and learning are in full swing. The Algebra I students are learning math through quality instruction and technology. A true sense of “blended instruction” for all students is occurring in Edgewood. Blended instruction is the way we integrate technology and learning within school. We don’t just use iPads or computers to “look stuff up”; we use technology as a means of learning and sharing new ideas and as the way students demonstrate their knowledge of content. Blended instruction is certainly something we look forward to expanding in the future.
Teachers are also busy learning techniques to improve instruction in order to be the best teachers in Bexar County. Teachers are actively engaged in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at the schools and district level. I was so thankful when I heard fifty-five teachers attended an after school PLC for literacy. Way to go teachers! That shows such dedication. Secondary and elementary teachers are also engaged in learning more about STAAR Writing, math instruction and so much more. It is important for all parents to know the extra time and effort our teachers put into their job in order to provide a world class education for your children.
We would like to thank the students who have been nominated to our Student Advisory Committee (SAC). This committee is made up of secondary students from all our middle schools and high schools. These students are the “voices” for all students. They have the opportunity to give school officials feedback as to what is working in their schools and what needs to be improved. The students discuss issues that matter to them and we take their advice to heart. We make changes and improvements, such as upgrading the computers in the high school Go Centers based on the feedback we receive from the Student Advisory Committee. I would like to encourage all parents to talk to their children and to ask your children to seek out the SAC members if your children have issues they want the school officials to hear. After all, it is the student voices that matter the most.
We wish all of you a great fall season and I certainly look forward to supporting the teachers and students of Edgewood ISD today and throughout the school year.
