HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

The high school counselor functions as a primary student advocate within the school
community by challenging, encouraging and supporting students.  Counseling services
include individual and group counseling, conferences with students, parents and faculty.
The counselor also participates in and provides student assessments, college and career
information, consultations, and may also coordinate outside referral services.  On a day
to day basis the counselor is also available to deal with crisis situations that require
immediate attention.
The following is a brief Texas Education Agency official description of the four components for which the school counselor is responsible.
