Mrs. Hamilton ESL I & II
 
Class Materials: Student needs to provide a binder that stays in the room, four pocket folders (any color) with brads, colored markers or colored pencils, loose leaf paper and spiral for daily journal writing. Binders will be checked weekly for a grade. Check out translator from library.  No cell phones will be allowed even for translating purposes. A Spanish/English dictionary will be checked out from Mrs. Hamilton.

 

      Instruction: Each day will revolve around a specific task with reading, writing, listening, and speaking English being required. Mrs. Hamilton will have individual conferences weekly to discuss progress and areas of concern. Laptops will be used for internet research to assist with English and translator. Rosetta Stone software will be used for learning English.

 

      Class rules: Students are expected to follow classroom rules and be an active participant in their own learning. A pencil is required every day. Class rules are as follows:  Be Punctual, Be Prepared, Be Productive, Be Polite, Be Positive, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.  Anything that disrupts the classroom environment affects the class as a whole and interferes with student learning and teacher instruction. Disruptions will not be tolerated. In the event of a student’s intentional disruption, 1st offense the student will be warned, 2nd offense will lead to a student/teacher conference, 3rd offense parent phone call and teacher detention, and 4th offense will result in an office referral.**ANY SEVERE DISRUPTION OF CLASS WILL RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE REFERRAL!!!!**

 

Make-Up Work Guidelines:

1.  According to School District policy, if an absence is excused, you will have three days to make up your work without penalty. Please refer to your student handbook for more information on excused and unexcused absences.

2. If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed. All assignments and homework will be posted. YOU are expected to make arrangements to make up missed work.

 

Grading Policy:

According to School District policy grading is as follows

50% Summative (Tests, Projects, Final Essays)

50% Cumulative (Class Work, Journals, Rough Drafts, and any other class work)

Nine week grade=75% Final Exam=25%
