Welcome to Communications and Public Relations

The award winning Office of Communications and Public Relations manages the District's communications and media relations activities, produces internal and external publications for employees, students, and the community such as The Edgewood Historian, and oversees content on the District's website, www.eisd.net.
News releases are provided by the Communications and Public Relations utilizing electronic media outlets to inform community, employee's about the achievements and recent accomplishments of the District, upcoming events, public awareness campaigns, and other pertinent information. Additionally, the department also provides audio-visual assistance during meetings, and other district events.
In addition to the internal media releases, we also utilize a quarterly publication, The Edgewood Historian is to inform and educate the community.

Mission Statement
The Public Relations Office is Edgewood ISD’s primary source for telling the District’s story through media communications, public outreach, and electronic means. The Public Relations Office works to inform and educate the community about Edgewood ISD schools, programs, students, personnel, and achievements.
Our Goals
  • Provide accurate and timely responses to information requests
  • Produce high-quality communication pieces with comprehensive and up-to-date information
  • Support student achievement by highlighting their accomplishments
  • Support the schools, Superintendent, Board of Trustees, and staff in communicating Edgewood ISD policies, procedures and programs
  • Build community support for Edgewood ISD
Under the direction of the Superintendent, Dr. Jose A. Cervantes, the Office of Communications/ Public Relations also plans special events and recognition celebrations.

Department Secretary
Marivel Insall joined the Office of Communications & Public Relations in 2012.  With 9 years of experience as a secretary in the medical field, Marivel has a great respect to the needs of the employee’s and students she encounters on a daily basis.  Marivel works hard to reach every goal and task she endeavors to make her job a success. 

Marivel Insall is continuing her education majoring in Counseling & Behavioral Psychology. Ms. Insall looks forward to great and successful school year.

Mr. Marvin Jimenez

Multimedia Specialist

Marvin Jimenez joined the EISD public relations and communications department in 2014.  A filmmaker and photographer since 2001, Marvin’s experience includes field production, studio film production, film editing, lighting, and photojournalism.

Marvin has worked as a cinematographer/camera operator with several production companies and clients that include Alamo HD, BP Billiton, Chef Curtis Stone, City of San Antonio Mayor’s Office, Cool Fire Media, Gold’s Gym, MLB, The Nations Family Films, Prem Rewat Foundation, U.S Army, and several others.

In 2008, as a teacher at Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary, Marvin was awarded first prize for his commercial “Words Really Do Hurt”, a national public service announcement sponsored by Sony and the AD council.

Marvin earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2001 and his master’s degree in education administration from Concordia University in 2009.

District Writer

Yvonne M. Pena is the Edgewood ISD Public Relations Writer. She has worked in public relations for over 30 years while serving Edgewood ISD. 
Pena is responsible for the publishing of the Edgewood Historian and photographing district events. In recent years, the Edgewood Historian has received state recognitions. The publication received a Gold Star and “Best in State” recognition from the Texas School Public Relations Association and received the Silver Star at the 2014 TSPRA Conference. Pena has also received two Silver Star recognitions for photographs of Edgewood ISD events.
She handles special projects as assigned, including the Teacher of the Year award and Hall of Fame.  She assists as a website administrator and contributes in other departmental projects. She earned her Associates Degree in Information Technology/Visual Communications from the University of Phoenix Axia College in 2008.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Phoenix in 2011.
Yvonne’s goal is to continue to promote and recognize the great things happening with Edgewood ISD students and staff.

Business Community Coordinator
George Garnica became the Districts Business Community Coordinator in September of 2014.  Before becoming part of the Communication and Public Relations Office, George spent 14 years working in marketing, public relations, community outreach and recruitment.  
George’s main job is to build and promote a strong integrated partnership with the business community to support the District’s school children, to support and enrich the current partnership initiatives and to fuel innovative approaches to educate and promote the awareness of educational success correlating to business success.
He is a product of Edgewood I.S.D. graduating from John F. Kennedy High School.  He has his Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Development from the University of the Incarnate Word and will complete his Master of Arts in Administration with a concentration in Communication Arts in October of 2014 from the University of the Incarnate Word. 
George is excited to serve the Edgewood community in this position and looks forward to building partnerships that will benefit the district.
