• Accessing and Displaying YouTube Using AirPlay

Posted by Kimberly Jett at 10/7/2014
If attempting to open a YouTube video on an iPad, you will more than likely get blocked by the district's Internet filter. Administrators, teachers, and staff (not students) can access YouTube videos to be used for educational purposes.

If you are blocked, you will be prompted to sign into the Barracuda Web Filter with your district username and password. If the video is "allowable" you will then be able to view the video, if the filter still deems it "unacceptable" you will continue to get blocked. If you feel that the video is educational in nature and should be unblocked, you can submit a ticket under Help Desk.

If attempting to mirror a YouTube video, please follow the resource below and AirPlay through the iPad Control Center rather than through the YouTube AirPlay feature.

  • Changing Signature Block on iPad

Posted by Kimberly Jett at 10/6/2014
An e-mail signature is a block of text appended to the end of an e-mail message. The signature usually contains the sender's name, title, contact information, and website. When sending an email from an iPad, the signature by default is "sent from iPad". Although the recipient knows the email came from you, they may need further information about you such as what campus or department you work with and how to contact you.

Edgewood ISD Technology Department would like to recommend that all users change their iPhone/iPad signature to match the sample below. Follow the the directions and guidelines to change your email signature. Please include the district mission statement in the signature.

As long as the website or video that you are attempting to access is within the district's allowable list, you will be able to log into Barracuda and gain access to those sites or videos. To log into Barracuda, you will need to do the following:

  • Just a Little APP-etizer!

Posted by Kimberly Jett at 3/4/2014
Today's Meterologist of the Day is Celeste from Perales Elementary!

Using the InstaWeather app, Celeste was able to describe that "it is cold and wet outside!" then snap a photo showing she was cold! The Instaweather app is a great way to review the weather forecast and include in the morning class routine, especially in K-2 classrooms. Students can document the weather, forecast patterns, and document their learning! The share feature within the app easily allows users to post on classroom social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram, etc or simply save to the camera roll and share on a teacher website or blog!

  • Appy Hour

Posted by Kimberly Jett at 1/31/2014
In coordination with the Instructional Technology Staff, the Technology Department hosted the first Appy Hour on January 28, 2014! This first Appy Hour was a two hour iPad professional development opportunity. The session specifically focused on iPad apps that can be used in the classroom, with most of the apps being cross curricular and versatile for most classrooms. It was a BYOD session so attendees brought their own iPads, however some iPads were available for check-out. Thanks to the Instructional Technology Facilitators, a different app was presented every 5 minutes, keeping the attendees interested in a variety of instructional ideas. Using the iPad's AirPlay feature, all presentations were done wirelessly from each presenter's iPad.

The Technology Department looks forward to hosting an Appy Hour every month from 5-6 pm. The next Appy Hour is February 26, 2014. Registration for the session is available in Eduphoria.
