Ms. Susan Galentine

I'm Ms. Galentine, the music teacher here at Loma Park Elementary. I have been an EISD teacher for 9 years. I taught elementary music in Somerset for 7 years, high school music at the Edgewood Fine Arts Academy for 8 years, and this is my 2nd year at Loma Park.

I started my career in music at the young age of 15 when under the supervision of my piano teacher, started teaching very young students piano lessons. I spent my formative years mostly in San Antonio but also lived in Louisiana, Alabama, and Hawaii. After being a "stay at home mom" for ten years, I completed my Bachelor of Music Degree from UTSA in 1997, and my Master of Arts Degree, also from UTSA in 2007. In 1995 I had the opportunity to travel to and study piano in Russia with a group of pianists from UTSA. I have completed Phase One of Kodaly Music Certification, have an All-Level Music Certification, and a Principal Certification from the State of Texas.

In 1998, I started work for Somerset ISD, teaching Elementary Music for seven years. While working on my Master's degree, I met some teachers from Edgewood who recommended I submit an application. I did and was hired as the Fine Arts Literacy Teacher at the Edgewood Academy of Fine Arts in 2005. In 2006, I took over the choir at the Academy, and in 2007 took on the additional responsibilities for teaching Music Theory and Applied Music (both piano and guitar).

I have lived in San Antonio most of my life but did move around a lot as a child. My father was in the Air Force. I have been a single parent for 20 years, have two grown children, one grandchild, three cats, and one dog. In my spare time I practice piano and guitar, take walks to the park with my granddaughter, fiddle with technology, and clean house.

I'm honored to be back at Loma Park Elementary for my second year. Loma Park has the best staff of any school I've worked for and I feel lucky to be a part of such a great team.
