Ms. Galentine
Choir/Music Theory/Applied Music

Welcome to the Edgewood Academy's Choir and Music Theory Page. Here you will find information about the music classes your children are taking.

Congratulations to Samantha Moreno, Memorial Sophomore and Edgewood Fine Arts Academy
choir student, who made 5th Chair in the Soprano II section, this weekend (October 27, 2012) at the
RegionXI Treble Vocal Auditions at Stephens HS.
The RegionXI Vocal audition is a "blind" audition
where hundreds of students compete for a spot on the RegionXI Choir against
High Schools in Region XI including,
Northside, Kerrville, Del Rio, Pleasanton, and more.
It is a great accomplishment,
and a well deserved accomplishment.

Choir groups have two main performances a year. One in the Fall,  and the other in the Spring. All choir members are expected to perform in both of these events. There are multiple opportunities for choir members to compete; Region XI Treble Auditions, UIL Solo & Ensemble and the American Bluebonnet Classic. These competitions are required for Letterman Jacket eligibility.

Music Theory is offered with applications in both Piano and Guitar. Beginning Music Theory students are not required to perform but will be offered performance opportunities. Applied Music students have two required performances per year.

In addition to traditional music classes, we have established an after school rock band, that evolved from one performance of the TranSiberian Orchestra's Christmas in Sarajevo in 2007 to a full-blown rock-n-roll group. We were invited by VH1 to perform at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin in March 2009, which resulted in positive
National recognition for our school and the Edgewood ISD. At that time students had named themselves "outerheaven". Since then, with input from students and teachers, we have re-named the Edgewood Academy Rock Band.... West Edge .

Check out the course description pages for more detailed information regarding WestEdge, Choir and Music Theory course offerings.
